ABOUT THE RAINBOW LODGE
|
|||||
My name is Janet and this is my dog Sunny. |

I first came to Cambodia in October 2005 and completed 10 weeks volunteering in Botum Sakor National Park on the west coast. I loved every minute of it. After 2 weeks of travelling around Cambodia, its wonderful countryside and warm, friendly people convinced me that this was the place for me. I returned briefly to England to say goodbye to my career, family and friends and left for a new life in Cambodia. I have not regretted it. |

The idea of an Ecolodge first formed when I was volunteering. The scenery, the wildlife and the local people are charming and wonderful but much remains unseen by the average tourist. I believe that the modern traveller wishes to experience more than just being hurried from one main attraction to another and to support the places they visit in a way that is often not possible through large tour operators. The question, therefore, arose of how to benefit local communities and the environment without the negative impact often associated with tourists. |
||||
From this I decided to build an ecolodge to provide good quality, safe and comfortable accommodation for travellers who wish to see a different side of Cambodia, whilst helping the local population and protecting the environment. So with the help of local khmer builders, carpenters, suppliers and an interpreter(!) we embarked upon the project. After 8 months of hard work, some trials and tribulations, but lots of fun too, the Rainbow lodge has reached completion. Our local staff and myself are now ready to welcome you, and we look forward to showing you beautiful Cambodia, from the best of settings. |

Mr Lei and his wife Yaa and children Methar (11) and Satera (1) came to join the Rainbow Lodge in November 2007.
Mr Lei had worked as a ranger in Botum Sakor National Park for 5 years and during that time also worked for Frontier which takes overseas volunteers to do research in the park. Mr Lei has great experience and understanding of the jungle. When you visit us he will share this knowledge with you on our jungle treks and boat trips. Mr Lei speaks English and is always keen to learn more. Yaa has been a fulltime mother but now combines this with the role of head cleaner and laundry lady, an invaluable member of the team.
Saron is our cook, not only producing excellent Khmer food she is quickly learning to cook dishes from all over Asia and the western world. Saron is also continuing her studies in Khmai, and her English is improving daily; she helps us to learn Khmai too!
